In ancient ages, before anyone’s memory, the earth was shaken by a great cataclysm. It was tilted off its axis and fire and ash rained from the sky for weeks. Millions of people were killed and whole civilizations were destroyed.But something was born in the cataclysm. It created five stones: one for each of the elements. Three of the stones were stolen by humans. Each stone controlled the powers of the element imbedded within it. The stones built new civilizations and started new wars. But each time the power of the stones was invoked, something changed within the very nature of existence itself. Eventually, two of the stones were lost—or destroyed. Only one remains.

By the power of the stones, humanity has been altered. The stones combined their magic with human and animal to create a composite of the three. Any animal can actually be a shape-shifter…And anyone who looks human also has an animal counterpart.

But were those stones really gifts? They've started wars and caused destruction for years amongst the human shape-shifters. At last, some peace has been created with the empire of Rhyallia. Or...a rough peace, since trouble is constantly brewing below the surface. Injustice reigns in the home of the self-centered Emperor and his Empress, and the High Priestess would give anything to control all the stones for herself...

Meantime, far from Rhyallia lie the lands of the Star and Storm creatures: mythic creatures that take many forms and have magic far more powerful than that of the Rhyallians. But trouble is brewing there as well, with most of the dragons and their weredragon relatives destroyed, and the last hiding in some of the hidden cities or in deep caves.

Meantime, the oldest guardians of the earth (those still alive, that is), call the creature who created the stones "the Other" and claim he is a monster, but his intentions are unclear. If all seven of the stones are found...what then? Will it unleash a great magical power as the priests claim? Or bring the Other into his full power, as the guardians claim?
