I slipped my hand under the Lily's belly and one around her chest as I lifted the American Pit Bull Terrier onto the operating table. The young dog was owned my a friend of mine so I said I would take a look at her with no charge. She was only in for a check up to make sure there was nothing wrong and a few shots. As I placed her on the table she looked up and licked my face making me laugh lightly as I patted her head. She wasn't a mean dog even though she looked like it, Lily was very sweet. I placed a hand on the top of her head and one under and lifted her head slightly and took a look at her eyes. "Good, good." I said in a strong Australian accent. I then lifted up her cheeks and opened my mouth to take a took at her teeth to see if she may have tooth/gum problems. Everything looked fine so I let good and stroked her head. 'Good girl." I said in a baby tone. I looked in her ears for wax build up and they where clean, I smiled happily. I ran a hand along her back and looked at her skin to see it was gray and white which meant she didn't have any skin irritations. I got her to stand up and ran a hand along her sides and stifle. I could just feel her ribs but I couldn't see them witch meant she was in good shape. I smiled and rubbed her head. "Stay." I said taking a few steps back and getting the needle for her rabies shot that she got every year. I gently pocket it into her shoulder/neck and injected it then pulled it out and put it away.
I smiled at the fawn-and-white bitch and turn took her off the table. I grabbed her leash and hooked her up leading her out. I took her to the hold room since her owner wasn't going to be able to pick her up till three o'clock. I never minded holding animals here even if they didn't need a check up and just needed a place to stay. I kept my three horses here but I was going to find a place for them soon though. I let Lily into a kennel and put in some dog food before closing it up and walking out.
I had only just started up the vet office and all ready I had two works working for me. Sidney Kasal and Gabrielle Wolfe, both fine people. One was a student vet, an apprentice learning how things worked around here so one day they could be a vet and they other an actual vet. I sighed and walked outside to the gold cart where I put a bail of hay in and drove out the the field and threw the bail in. My three horses Chance, Angel, and Summer came galloping in for some food and I smiled at them before turning the golf cart around and driving back. I went inside and sat at the front desk awaiting for something to come.
